The advantage of living off Transmountain is that a shoulder-hour outing does not eat the shoulder. The trailheads at the Tom Mays Unit sit inside a very short drive from Enchanted Hills, and the state park continues to grow around you. Runs until Saturday, September 5th, 2026. Little Diner is celebrating 50 years of serving authentic, traditional Mexican food, with stories, giveaways, and a limited time only Summer Mangoneada.
That is roughly five weekends from the date of this post. If you have been telling yourself you would try it eventually, eventually is now. A milestone menu item is one of the few things a restaurant genuinely cannot bring back later.
The rest of the summer calendar there is worth glancing at too. National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day falls on Tuesday, August 4th, and the kitchen has been running food-holiday specials all season. If you were going to be in the area for errands anyway, the timing lines up.
The Outlet Shoppes just got easier to reach, on purpose
Most residents here already treat the Outlet Shoppes at El Paso as an extension of the neighborhood. It is close enough that a Saturday errand run reads more like walking to a corner shop in a denser city. What changed recently is that you no longer need to be the one driving.
Visitors can now access The Outlet Shoppes at El Paso via Sun Metro Routes 12 and 15, which quietly matters for two groups. First, high school and college kids in the household who want to meet friends there without a parent chauffeur. Second, any guest staying with you who did not fly in with a car. The center itself keeps adding, with new arrivals including Jawns Over among the recent openings on the directory.
If you have not been in a while, the amenity mix is more family-oriented than most people remember. The center provides a dancing water fountain, children's play areas, and free events, which reframes what a Saturday morning there can look like once the storms move out.
A weekend plan that respects the storms

- Sunday afternoon. If the forecast is generous, one of the neighborhood parks: Enchanted Hills Park, Eagle Vista Park, Schweitzer Park, or Desert Vista Park. If not, Flix Brewhouse for whatever is opening this weekend.
The point of writing that plan out is not that anyone will follow it exactly. It is that a full weekend fits inside a very short radius. That is not true in every part of El Paso.
